Cars in German Town Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Officers stated they were contacted by a resident who discovered a vehicle in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then discovered many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human blood.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they added.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior official said the vandalism rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
